Predicting Manhole Mixing Using a Compartmental Model

چکیده
Manholes in combined sewers may become surcharged during storm events, resulting complex mixing conditions. Although manhole hydrodynamics are reasonably well understood, predicting across a remains challenge. An analytical compartmental model for manholes, based on jet theory, has been further developed and applied to generate cumulative residence time distributions (CRTDs), which describe mixing. The modeled CRTDs were compared with the experimentally derived of over 850 configurations evaluate how new represents physical processes. underpredicts short-circuiting manholes diameter pipe ratios greater than 4.4 consequently overestimates Otherwise, show good agreement experimental CRTDs. key that not represented current software modeling packages, assume instantaneously well-mixed. provides predictions downstream concentration profiles, although reduced peak concentrations those where is well-predicted. Despite this, still predicts closer recorded data complete well-mixed assumption. As an requiring no inputs other geometry, applies wide range configurations, robust, useful practical applications.

Minimal compartmental model of circulatory mixing of indocyanine green.
A model of indocyanine green (ICG) disposition from the moment of its injection in blood was developed. ICG disposition was characterized in five dogs deeply anesthetized with halothane, which decreased cardiac output and prolonged intravascular mixing. After ICG injection into the right atrium, femoral arterial blood samples were collected every 3 s for the 1st min and less frequently to 20 mi...
متن کاملOn Compartmental Modelling of Mixing Phenomena
In this paper the problem of modelling partial mixing phenomena, mostly relevant in environmental and reactors modelling practice, is considered. The ultimate modelling goal is to find identifiable, finite-dimensional state-space models, which are physically interpretable, realisable and which describe partial mixing. Hence, realization theory will be linked to prior physical systems knowledge ...
متن کاملPredicting waste generation using Bayesian model averaging
A prognosis model has been developed for solid waste generation from households in Hoi An City, a famous tourist city in Viet Nam. Waste sampling, followed by a questionnaire survey, was carried out to gather data. The Bayesian model average method was used to identify factors significantly associated with waste generation. Multivariate linear regression analysis was then applied to evaluate th...
متن کاملPredicting Vulnerability to Serious Manhole Events In Manhattan : A Preliminary Machine Learning Approach
Our goal is to rank the electricity service structures (manholes and service boxes) in Manhattan according to their vulnerability to serious manhole events such as manhole fires, explosions and smoking manholes. Manhole event prediction is a new application for machine learning, and we started this project with a large amount of data from several disparate sources, most of which is extremely no...
متن کاملPredicting Manhole Events in Manhattan A Case Study in Extended Knowledge Discovery
We present an extended knowledge discovery (EKD) process developed as part of the Columbia/Con Edison project on manhole event prediction. This process can assist with real-world prioritization problems that involve raw data in the form of noisy documents requiring significant amounts of pre-processing. The documents are linked to a set of instances to be ranked according to prediction criteria...
